Last year, we had a Fixed Time stage at nationals and quickly learned that many folks have never seen that scoring method and were confused about how Fixed Time works and is scored. By using that scoring method at nationals, we are now seeing it pop up more in local matches and other major matches. But what are all the differences between the different scoring methods in USPSA?

Pre-Painted Targets

Who should know the rules?

When I teach the RO seminar I always tell the class that taking the seminar will not only teach you how to officiate, but also help improve your game as a competitor. Why? Because if you know the rules, you understand what is allowed and not allowed and also can be an advocate for yourself if you encounter an official who may not know the rules.

Why is RM approval required?

Table manners

We have previously discussed the appropriate ready conditions for loaded firearms that start the stage on a table, but what about unloaded firearms and their placement. I recently worked a match where a stage required magazines to start on any of the barrels and the unloaded firearm to start on the table. It was a fun stage, but we had competitors earn a DQ before they even fired a shot on the stage. Can you guess why?
