Proper popper attitude

September 24, 2020 by Jodi Humann

There are some people who have very strong feelings about poppers and calibration challenges. Yes, sometimes competitors feel that the calibration process puts them over a barrel, but the reality is that if ROs are doing their job, then there are very few calibrations and when there are calibrations, the process works fine.

But they were unloaded

September 17, 2020 by Jodi Humann

NROI stresses the importance of not only stating clear start positions in WSBs, but also making sure that competitors are in the proper start position before issuing “Standby” while running competitors. But what about firearm ready conditions?

Facing Uprange

August 6, 2020 by Jodi Humann

In a previous Question of the Month, we discussed the changes to the definition of facing downrange, but we have observed that there is still some confusion about what the definition of facing uprange is. For July, we showed a picture of a competitor in a facing uprange start position, and asked if he was in the correct position. The results indicated that we chose a good topic to explore.

NROI Blog Rules FAQs

July 23, 2020 by Jodi Humann

We have added a new feature to the NROI blog called Rules FAQ. Yes, it’s a collection of questions we get asked, you guessed it, frequently. Otherthinking the rules

July 16, 2020 by Jodi Humann

We have all done it, some more than others. We have read a rule and then tried to parse it down to every single word in the process of understanding it. And sometimes that makes folks second guess what the rule actually means, or makes a rule mean what they want or think it should mean. Stop it!

Activating activators

July 2, 2020 by Jodi Humann

In the 2020 rulebook, some changes were made to section 9.9 that changed how certain activated targets are scored if the target is never activated. We wanted to see how many folks noticed the change and as a result asked the following Question of the Month: The Max Trap in the picture is activated by a stomp pad. The competitor shoots the target putting two hits in the upper A-zone and never activates it. How do you score the target?

Classifier re-entries

July 2, 2020 by Jodi Humann

USPSA is pleased to announce that the ninth video in the Practiscore Training series is now available on the USPSA website. This installment covers how to correctly enter a classifier re-entry. Not a reshoot required by the rules, but the single, same division, optional reshoot that a competitor can do on the classifier for a better score.

PCC is not a crime

June 18, 2020 by Jodi Humann

Pistol Caliber Carbine has been a USPSA Division since 2016, but there are still some folks who are against PCC. Yes, we are allowing people to use a rifle in handgun matches. And yes, PCCs aren’t compatible with holsters so the gun handling rules are different. But, USPSA matches have some of the most strict gun handling rules in the shooting sports so why is there so much hate towards PCC as a Division?
