Whether it be the growl of the old speaker style timers or the modern piezo driven squeal, it all means the same thing; time for the fun to start! Or, for many of us, “Stage plan? What stage plan?” Regardless, it is the signal from the RO that it is your turn to draw/retrieve your firearm and get to shooting.

A stage plan…to RO?

As competitors we always talk about stage plans: Where we will move to, when we will reload, the order of target engagement. The mental planning helps when it comes time to actually shoot the stage. But very seldom do we actually look at the stage from the RO perspective until we are handed the timer, and often it isn’t until the shooter is about to run us over that we realize that the stage is trickier to RO than we thought.

Getting Selected for Major Match Staff

Working major matches (Level II, Level III and Nationals) can be one of the best things you can do for your RO career. You are guaranteed to get more experience and see more “things” at a Major than you will at your local matches and all this adds up to great experience and helps make you a better RO.
