I will admit, it sometimes is hard to keep all the different division equipment rules straight, we do have eight divisions now. But fortunately, we have a rulebook that outlines the requirements for each one in Appendix D. Yeah, some of the divisions use a single page and others span numerous pages, but all the information is there…you just have to look.
We often get questions about what is legal for use in which division, which is normal. People want to make sure they aren’t using a piece of equipment that will accidentally get them bumped to Open or even worse shoot for no score. But, we do get frustrated when it is clear that people are not reading and using the information in the rulebook properly.
Recently, I got asked if slide rackers were allowed in Limited because it isn’t listed in Appendix D2. Another person asked about using a frame weight in Limited. I do remember when these items were not allowed in Limited (the rulebook with a blue cover), but now they are allowed. How do I know that? There is not a Prohibited Modifications and Features section in the Limited Division appendix (see section 22 for the divisions that do). Which means you can add slide rackers and frame weights to your Limited gun. If it isn’t prohibited, it’s allowed in Open, Limited, Limited-10, Revolver and PCC.
If you are shooting Production, Carry Optics, or Single Stack those divisions do have a section 22 in their Appendix D. There are modifications/features that you cannot use. These divisions also have section 21, Authorized Modifications. Which means that modifications have to be specifically allowed. If the modification isn’t listed as authorized in Appendix D for these three divisions, you can’t do it.
Make sure you don’t get your division rules mixed up, and don’t try to apply Production division restrictions to Limited division. They are separate divisions and have separate equipment requirements. If you are at a match and someone says you can’t have a slide racker on your Limited gun because it’s not allowed in Production and they want you to show proof….just open the rulebook, go to Appendix D2 and ask where slide rackers are prohibited.
